MULHER - The evolving world of Portuguese-speaking women
Call for Presenters
In this conference we propose to celebrate the accomplishments of Portuguese-speaking women who have taken steps in moving forward with their lives and in raising the standards of their communities. The success of female immigrants from Brazil, Cape- Verde, Portugal and others is embodied in their confidence, self- fulfillment as much as in the dimension of their actions.
Conference proposal themes will include, but are not limited to, the following topics and categories:
- Women breaking into new fields: science, technology, research, business, politics, sports, etc.
- Overcoming discrimination, sexism, sexual harassment.
- Working towards women empowerment and gender equality.
- Women living ordinary lives under extraordinary circumstances: social status, spirituality.
- Accounts of women's struggles, to women's success stories: overcoming adversity despite barriers.
- Women caring for themselves as they care for others: family, household and community issues.
- Social roles of women: anthropology, sociology, psychology, interdisciplinary studies.
- Women's health: mental health, alternative health care, young women's health, mother's health.
- Women's forms of expression: art, literature, music, multimedia.
- Women and immigration: impact of transition, deportation, living as immigrants.
- Women and education: formal and non-formal education
- Women and family: inter-generational debates
Types of submission:
Submissions should consist of an abstract of 500 words or less, explaining your topic and idea for a panel presentation of 10 minutes, or a 10 minute artistic presentation related the above topics. All submissions will be reviewed by the committee. Successful candidates will present their work at the conference.
Conference Language
Even though we expect an international audience in the conference and the presence of many Portuguese- speaking, the official written and spoken language of the conference is English. Contributions and papers are welcomed from all parts of the world.

Submissions procedure
All abstracts will be reviewed. Only successful applicants will be notified. Please add your name and contact details in the abstract that you submit for review. Please submit a CV and with your abstract.
