CAMBRIDGE, MA -- October 4, 2002 -- On Monday, October 28, the Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers (MAPS) will host a special tribute to the late Manuel N. Coutinho, who volunteered at MAPS for more than 30 years as a citizenship teacher.

The tribute will take place from 5-6:30 p.m. at the MAPS Cambridge office, 1046 Cambridge St. It will be followed by refreshments and then the agency's Annual Meeting. Community members are invited to attend.

Mr. Coutinho, who died recently at age 89, helped more than 3,500 immigrants become American citizens. A special Outstanding Volunteer Award is given out each spring by MAPS in his name at the health and social service agency's Annual Community Awards Banquet.
