MAPS 40th Anniversary Awards Gala — May 8, 2010, 6 pm
Secretary of State William Galvin & 4 Others to Be Honored
We’re glad to announce that Massachusetts Secretary of State William F. Galvin will receive the Person of the Year Award at our 40th Anniversary Gala, to be held May 8 at the Boston Marriott Cambridge Hotel in Kendall Square.
Secretary Galvin is doing outstanding work to promote the upcoming 2010 US Census, which is extremely important for the Portuguese-speaking population as well as for everyone who lives here in Massachusetts.
Besides him, we’ll be honoring four other individuals at our annual fundraiser:

Siqueira
Helena Santos Martins, MD, a physician with the Cambridge Health Alliance, and Eduardo Siqueira, MD, Sc.D., Assistant Professor in the Department of Community Health and Sustainability of UMass Lowell, who are receiving MAPS Jorge Fidalgo Community Service Awards;
Alice Gomes, a Cape Verdean Family Development Specialist at the Family Nurturing Center of Massachusetts, to be honored with the MAPS Manuel N. Coutinho Outstanding Volunteer Award; and
Margarida Serpa, recently retired Director of the Multi-Lingual Program at the Malden School Department, who will receive the agency’s Mary & Manuel Rogers Lifetime Community Service Award.
We also appreciate the support of our distinguished Honorary Committee members for this special 40th Anniversary celebration, which will feature a black tie-optional banquet and awards ceremony, dancing, entertainment, a Silent Auction and more.
