The Massachusetts White Ribbon Day Pledge:
“From this day forward, I promise to be part of the solution in ending violence against women.”
What is it?
The White Ribbon Campaign was created by a handful of Canadian men in 1991 on the second anniversary of one man’s massacre of 14 women in Montreal. They began the White Ribbon Campaign to urge men to speak out against violence against women. It is the largest effort in the world of men working to end men’s violence against women. It relies on volunteer support and financial contributions from individuals and organizations. After only six weeks’ preparation, more than one hundred thousand men across Canada wore a white ribbon. Many others were drawn into discussion and debate on the issue of men’s violence. http://www.whiteribbon.com
How is MAPS involved?

Angelo McClain, MA DCF Commissioner, and Paulo Pinto, MAPS Exec. Director, Co-Chairs of the 2012 MA WRD Campaign
MAPS has been involved with the Massachusetts White Ribbon Day Campaign since its inception and has proudly joined the initiative every year. In 2012, MAPS Executive Director Paulo Pinto, MPA, is honored to be the co-chair of the 2012 Massachusetts WRD Campaign, along with Angelo McClain, Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families (DCF).
“As an immigrant, I am delighted to be connected with this international campaign because the devastation caused by domestic violence and sexual assault knows no boundaries,” said Pinto, who was a co-founder of the Massachusetts event organized by Jane Doe Inc. and its men’s program. “Freedom from violence is a human right, and each and every incident of sexual and domestic violence reminds us how important it is to fight for those rights, for equality and for the safety and liberty of survivors.”
