Time is running out to reserve your seats at the Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers (MAPS) 2017 Awards Gala, to take place April 29 at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Cambridge. As excitement builds for the black-tie-optional fundraiser, the health and social services organization will keep accepting seating reservations until Friday, April 21. The Gala will start at 5:30 pm with a Red Carpet arrival and cocktail reception, live music, and photographers taking elegant portraits as guests arrive. The event will also feature an awards ceremony, musical performances from the Portuguese-speaking world, a delicious banquet, and dancing. Guests will be able to bid on valuable Auction items, such as a “CR7 Super Fan Experience”, which includes a Portugal National Soccer Team jersey signed by Cristiano Ronaldo, round-trip airline tickets to Madeira, and tickets to the Cristiano Ronaldo Museum; round-trip airline tickets to Brazil, provided by COPA Airlines; a dining experience for up to 10 guests of fine Italian and Iberian cuisine, courtesy of Bronze sponsor Rocco’s Restaurant and Bar, paired with delicious Portuguese wines provided by MS Walker, and many more exciting and items.
Those attending the health and social services organization’s fundraiser will also be able to enjoy a nice cup of espresso, courtesy of the Gala’s Diamond Sponsors, Dunkin’ Donuts franchise owners Apres, Cafua, Couto and Riverside Management Groups. Heading the list of honorees this year is Lawrence (Larry) K. Fish, MAPS 2017 Person of the Year, the founder and chairman of the Fish Family Foundation. Through the foundation, Fish has supported the work of MAPS and many other organizations working with immigrant communities, contributing greatly to the empowerment of thousands of Portuguese-speaking immigrants and others. The event will also honor Father Volmar Scaravelli, Pastor of St. Tarcisius Church, in Framingham; Ana Nava, PhD, LICSW, Team Leader of the Portuguese Mental Health Clinic at the East Cambridge Health Center; John B. Cruz, III, president of Cruz Companies; and Project Health CV, a nonprofit medical aid group who makes yearly trips to Cabo Verde where they provide medical aid and training.

This year, the event is co-chaired by Natalia Fernandes, MAPS Executive Assistant, and Antonio Massa Viana, Esq., MAPS Board Member, who will also serve as the event’s co-host, alongside Edna Monteiro Leith, a former MAPS staff who now works at the Cambridge Rindge & Latin High School.
Guests attending the MAPS 2017 Awards Gala will also be treated to several live musical performances throughout the Awards ceremony, featuring the best of Brazilian drums with the Grooversity ensemble, Portuguese Fado with Sonia Bettencourt, Cabo Verdean Morna and Koladera with Gutty Duarte, and an after party with DJ Melo, from DNJ Entertainment.
