To follow up on the celebration of International Women’s Day, which takes place on March 8, the Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers’ (MAPS’) Lowell office at 11 Mill St. plans a special event to discuss the feminine condition in the world. Named “Women and Their Colors,” this friendly get-together will take place on March 20, from 12:30 to 2:30 pm. It will allow participants to show their talents by creating abstract paintings, while exchanging their experiences.
Volunteer artist Lineu Zaderski will coordinate the activity and help participants to explore their creativity using paper, color, and a secret material that he will provide at the event. Each color will have a different meaning: red will represent passion and seduction, but also HIV prevention; purple will symbolize positive energy and spirituality, as well as domestic violence prevention; and pink will bring the message of love along with breast cancer prevention.
“The participants will be invited to talk about their experiences while we wait for the artwork to dry, hanging on a clothesline,” said Maristela Tosato, Women’s Health Educator. “They will have the opportunity to share their feelings and thoughts with the group.” All the personal information given out by the participants is highly confidential and will not be shared with anyone.
During the event, there will be also an HIV/AIDS information contest. The idea is to make it educational, but also fun. Refreshments will be provided.
The “Women and Their Colors” event is open to the public and admission-free. For more information, please contact Maristela Tosato at (978) 970-1250, extension 16.
