Working within our Portuguese-speaking communities to help you, your family and friends! Stay healthy and informed.

We provide outreach, free education and prevention regarding breast cancer to our Portuguese-speaking communities. We all know someone who has been affected by breast cancer—whether a relative, friend or acquaintance, the news is initially hard to hear. Knowing more about the diagnosis of the disease, understanding the risk factors and why early detection and screening are so important can be life-saving and comforting to you and others you know. Also, if necessary, learn about treatment options and where you can find support. We are here to support you and all women in our communities.

MAPS Komen Race/Walk Team Surpasses Fundraising Goal Despite Snowstorm!

Due to the unexpected snow storm in October, the 2011 Susan G. Komen Race/Walk was cancelled; however, the MAPS and Komen teams remained positive and upbeat. Our team was able to surpass its goal by well over 100% and we raised $1,625!

The bad weather did not stop our fearless leader, Executive Director, Paulo Pinto. He braved the conditions and completed the walk.

“The Komen Race for the Cure was canceled due to the winter storm but I refused to let that keep me from walking those 5 kilometers. I wanted to walk in memory of my godmother and all of the victims of breast cancer, as well as in honor of all of the survivors. I also wanted to make sure that I earned all of the amazing support that all of you, my friends, entrusted upon me.”
