The Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers (MAPS) proudly supports the Brazilian Women’s Group in organizing the exciting 15th Brazilian Independence Festival, to take place September 5-12, with a variety of music, dance, food, information and other cultural attractions. All events have free admission.
• September 5, 12 pm – Hoisting of the Brazilian Flag and performance of the Brazilian National Anthem, at the Boston City Hall Plaza;
• September 8, 7 pm – Brazilian film screening: Master, A Building in Copacabana, at the Regent Theatre, 7 Medford St, Arlington;
• September 9, 7 pm – Teresa Ines & Marcus Santos in Concert, at the Framingham Public Library, Costin Room, 49 Lexington Street, Framingham;
• September 12, 12-6 pm – Outdoor Festival, at DCR Herter Park, 1175 Soldier’s Field Road, Boston.
Attractions:
- 12 pm official opening – performance of the Brazilian National Anthem by Daniela Speziale;
- Festival Opening Parade with Marcus Santos and AfroBrazil;
- Children’s activities;
- Boston Museum of Science;
- New England Aquarium;
- Ethnic Food, information and service stands;
- Live performances by Afro Orpheu Musical; Forro Band Cabras da Peste; dance performance by Moves & Vibes Co.; capoeira with Mestre Chuvisco; and David Ramos and Samba no Pé.
