How can I get the COVID-19 Vaccine or Booster?

MAPS offers free COVID-19 Vaccination clinics once a week at its offices and other key community locations such as churches, community centers, and social clubs in Massachusetts. The health and social services organization has been partnering with Health Innovations, Inc and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) since June of 2021 to bring the COVID-19 vaccines and reliable resources to the community in English, Portuguese and Spanish.

You can click here to access the calendar and find out the next clinic location and date. MAPS offers Moderna first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccines, as well as the updated booster shot. Appointments are not required, but community members looking to receive second doses or booster shots should bring their vaccination cards. $25 gift cards are available for those who receive their vaccine at the MAPS clinics.

You can call the MAPS COVID-19 Vaccination Hotline at 888-509-7788 to schedule an appointment to get vaccinated, or you can search for the nearest vaccine location here.

Bivalent COVID-19 booster

The updated boosters are also called “bivalent” because they protect against both the original virus that causes COVID-19 and the Omicron variant BA.4 and BA.5.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that people over 6 months old receive one updated (bivalent) booster if it has been at least 2 months since their last COVID-19 vaccine dose, whether that was their final primary series dose, or an original (monovalent) booster.

The COVID-19 vaccines, including boosters, continue to save countless lives and prevent the most serious outcomes like hospitalization and death of COVID-19.

Remember: If you live, work or study in Massachusetts, you can get vaccinated against COVID-19 for free, even if you do not have health insurance, a driver’s license, or a Social Security number. The vaccine is free for everyone. You will never be asked for a credit card number to make an appointment.

About COVID-19 Vaccines

COVID-19 vaccines available in the United States are effective at protecting people from getting seriously ill, being hospitalized, and dying. As with other vaccine-preventable diseases, you are protected best from COVID-19 when you stay up to date with the recommended vaccinations, including recommended boosters.

Four COVID-19 vaccines are approved or authorized in the United States:

  • Pfizer-BioNTech
  • Moderna
  • Novavax
  • Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen (J&J/Janssen) (However, CDC recommends that the J&J/Janssen COVID-19 vaccine only be considered in certain situations, due to safety concerns.)
